CFJTM Chapter 96 part 1. “Who is jealous! You are jealous!”

TN: Thursdays update~

Bai Jian decided where to eat, at Jiuan private restaurant on Nanwu Road at 5pm , a private restaurant with high ratings. It has no other shortcomings except that the price is too expensive.

Shen Qingshu thought he was quite sincere, Han Cheng didn’t care at all. “I spent over 4,000 on opening a hotel room for him.”

“Then why didn’t you take him to the police station?” Shen Qing asked him.

“I don’t live nearby. How can I know which alley the police station is in? Of course, I threw him into the hotel on the way home. Otherwise, I have to navigate and search, then have to explain the situation to the police comrades. Maybe I even have to detour. Who is he? Why do I have to waste so much effort?”

Shen Qingshu: … This is Han Cheng’s character.

“Don’t worry, next time you’re drunk…”

“Will you take me to the police station?” Shen Qingshu asked him.

“Why should I take you to the police station? I’ll take you home, take care of you myself and nurse you back to health.” Han Cheng smiled.

Shen Qingshu: … Thank you!

He glanced at Han Cheng and turned to look out of the window. He couldn’t help thinking of his dream and Han Cheng’s sentence – “do you think I like him?”.

Shen Qingshu felt that his heart was in a mess. It seemed that many kinds of pigments were mixed together. For a moment, he couldn’t see what colour remained.

Han Cheng drove for half an hour before finally arriving at the place to eat. They got out of the car and walked towards the private restaurant.

Bai Jian has already arrived and is waiting for them in the store.

When Shen Qingshu and Han Cheng entered the private room, they saw Bai Jian sitting in his seat and seemed to be replying to someone’s message.

“You are here” He put away his cell phone and said, “sit down.”

Han Cheng pulled Shen Qingshu to sit on the opposite side. Bai Jian immediately signalled a waiter and prepared to order.

None of the three people had been here before. Han Cheng causally ordered some of his and Shen Qingshu’s favourite dishes. Bai Jian ordered two signature dishes, saying they were recommended by netizens.

The waiter wrote down the order, left them a pot of tea and went out.

“Han ge, did you drive here?” Bai Jian asked Han Cheng.

Han Cheng said “En”.

Bai Jian picked up the teapot, poured a cup of tea for each of them, picked up his own teacup and said to Han Cheng, “Then I will toast you with tea instead of wine, and thank you for helping me twice.”

Han Cheng picked up the teacup and took a sip. “You’re welcome. I’d do that for anyone.”

“Still, thank you.” Bai Jian finished and took a sip of tea.

Shen Qingshu didn’t drink and looked on quietly.

Han Cheng promised Shen Qingshu to have a chat with Bai Jian without being perfunctory, so he asked, “but why are you alone every time I see you? Aren’t you also an actor? Where’s your agent and assistant?”

Bai Jian smiled and explained to him, “How can a little actor like me have any assistants? I have an agent, but I’m not their only artist, so they left me alone to go to help others when I entered this crew.”

Han Cheng nodded. That’s it.

Seeing that he was willing to talk to himself, Bai Jian asked curiously, “Han ge, did you come to visit Shen ge’s crew these two weekends?”

“En.” Han Cheng glanced at Shen Qingshu, “Come to see how he’s filming.”

“Shen ge is an excellent actor. The director often praises him. Meng ge also likes him very much, everyone likes him.”

“Really? That’s good.”

Looking at Shen Qingshu, Bai Jian said, “In fact, I envy Shen ge. We are both the same age, but he is much better than me.”

Shen Qingshu didn’t expect that the topic would suddenly shift to him. He smiled and replied, “You work hard and will definitely be popular in the future. You have great potential.”

Bai Jian thinks that sounds difficult. After all, he’s not as handsome as Shen Qingshu.

“I hope so.”

“Of course.” Shen Qingshu said.

While they were talking, the dishes were also served one after another.

Han Cheng habitually helped Shen Qingshu clip what he liked into the bowl. After he started, Shen Qingshu immediately said to him, “I’ll do it myself. You don’t have to worry about me.”

Han Cheng: …

All right, he understood that Shen Qingshu wanted to avoid suspicion.

“En.” Han Cheng responded helplessly.

He stopped caring about Shen Qingshu and concentrated on eating.

But Bai Jian looked at them and was suspicious.

For a time, the table was quiet. It seemed that everyone was busy eating.

Bai Jian felt a little awkward. Considering that it was his own treat, he started the topic again and chatted with Han Cheng. “Han ge, you’re not from our circle, are you? What do you do?”

“Investment.”

Bai Jian nodded and felt that it was very consistent with his vibe – he seemed like a dignified figure in the business world.

He obviously has a good impression of Han Cheng. So even if he is in the same crew with Shen Qingshu, he is more willing to find a topic and chat with Han Cheng.

Shen Qingshu listened to their back and forth, asking and answering questions, and ate quietly.

When it comes to hobbies, reading books and watching movies, Bai Jian was surprised to find that he and Han Cheng had a bit of the same taste in this regard. He said excitedly, “Me too. I also like that book.”

He looked at Han Cheng happily, “I didn’t expect you to like it too Han ge.”

Han Cheng said indifferently, “That’s normal. The book itself is a masterpiece. Naturally, many people like it.”

Bai Jian thought it was reasonable after hearing his words. He turned around to look at Shen Qingshu and asked him, “Shen ge, what books do you like to read?”

“Online novels.” Shen Qingshu replied truthfully.

Bai Jian: …

Bai Jian thought he would be the same as them. Unexpectedly, Shen Qingshu gave such an answer.

“Well, do you have any recommendations?”

“Everyone has different tastes, so I can’t recommend any. You can search for some yourself.” Shen Qingshu returned.

Bai Jian didn’t ask him any more, concluding with an “Okay.”

Han Cheng was almost full, so he stopped his chopsticks. Seeing that the shrimp on the table had hardly moved and Shen Qingshu’s plate was clean, he knew that he was too lazy to peel the shrimp again.

So Han Cheng rolled up his sleeves, wore disposable gloves, helped Shen Qing peel a few, put them on his plate and pushed it over.

Shen Qingshu felt guilty and said to him, “I said you don’t have to take care of me.”

With that he pushed the plate back. Han Cheng pressed down the edge of the plate and said to him, “Eat your food. I won’t peel any more after you finish this.”

After speaking he took off his gloves and didn’t give Shen Qingshu time to refuse again. Directly stating, “you continue to eat. I’m going to the bathroom.”

With that, Han Cheng stood up and went out.

Bai Jian watched him leave and turned to Shen Qingshu. “Shen ge, you have a good relationship with Han ge. He takes care of you so much.”

Shen Qingshu: …

Shen Qingshu felt embarrassed again. “He always takes good care of his friends.”

Bai Jian listened to the word “friend” and unconsciously felt relief in his heart.

Shen Qingshu looked at him and thought about his communication with Han Cheng, “You two have many common topics.”

Bai Jian smiled awkwardly, “I’m also surprised. I didn’t expect that Han ge and I would have similar interests.”

It’s nothing unexpected, Shen Qingshu thought. After all, it’s the official CP of the original novel. If you don’t have the same interests and hobbies, how can you communicate and live together?

“So do you want to be friends with him?” Shen Qingshu asked him.

Bai Jian seemed to be stung by this question, and then laughed at himself, “how can I be friends with him?”

“Why not? You two have a common topic. Naturally, you can be friends.”

Bai Jian shook his head.

“Han ge should have a high social status.” He said, “I can’t. I have nothing compared to him, the two of us are just different and unsuitable.”

“What’s wrong with this?” Shen Qingshu advised him, “You will be popular in the future, and you won’t be an unknown little actor all your life. Even if you are really just a little actor, you also have the right to make friends with others. Although you may have to work harder. Han Cheng doesn’t like to take the initiative in making friends, so you have to take the initiative, but as long as you are willing to work hard, you can succeed.”

Bai Jian lowered his head and smiled, but did not speak.

“You don’t want to?” Shen Qingshu asked him.

Bai Jian slowly raised her head. “Shen ge, you think everything can succeed as long as you work hard, don’t you?”

“Of course not,” Shen Qingshu said, “but if you don’t work hard, isn’t it more impossible to achieve what you want?”

Bai Jian’s tone was still casual and self mocking. He said, “Shen ge, you’re not me, so you don’t understand.”

Shen Qingshu was suddenly nailed by this sentence.

He thought about the reason why Bai Jian refused. His  first guess was that Bai Jian remembered Han Cheng’s previous saying that “we will not owe each other in the future”, so he might feel that Han Cheng was unwilling to make friends with him.

That’s why he said that he may need to take the initiative and work hard.

But he didn’t expect that Bai Jian didn’t mention this reason from beginning to end, but told him “you’re not me, so you don’t understand”.

What doesn’t he know?

He really doesn’t understand. He clearly has a good impression of Han Cheng. During this meal, he was almost exclusively chatting with Han Cheng. He clearly has a common language with Han Cheng, he was even pleasantly surprised about this. So, why doesn’t he take the initiative to approach him?

Why so unwilling to work hard?

“Is it because he said ‘you didn’t owe each other after’ when talking about this meal, so you’re disheartened?” He asked.

He thought that if so, he would understand. He didn’t dare to act as he wanted to respect Han Cheng, which is also very good. It means that he attaches importance to Han Cheng’s words.

But Bai Jian didn’t nod.

He pursed his lips and remained silent for a while before whispering, “It’s not this. I don’t deserve it. Shen ge, not everyone is like you. If I were you, I would be willing, but I’m not you, you’re not me, so you don’t understand.”

It’s this sentence again, it’s this sentence “you’re not me, so you don’t understand”.

If he doesn’t understand, then why can’t he explain it so he can understand?

Don’t people have mouths for talking?

If you can’t explain clearly in a word, then say more. If you can’t say it clearly after a minute, talk for a few minutes. If you can’t say it clearly after a few minutes, then a few hours. If he doesn’t say anything, how can others understand?

Shen Qingshu looked at the person in front of him and felt tired for the first time.

He didn’t even understand, what was he like? What is it that if I were you, I would be willing?

Please support the translator on pawprintpathtranslations and help click on some ads?

Is his starting point high?

Did he start well off?

When he first came to this world, his adoptive mother died, his biological parents mocked him, and his fake brother, who had stolen others’ nests for more than 20 years, wanted to disgust him.

He has no relatives or friends here. The day after he left the Shen family, he didn’t even have a place to stay. The only available funds are little more than 1000 yuan in his mobile wechat wallet.

Is he worthy of envy?

Is he great?

Compared with him, Bai Jian has a happy family and friends. Although he is only a small actor now, it must be much better than his working capital of only 1000 yuan at that time.

So why wouldn’t he understand?

Isn’t he getting off to a good start?

In addition to his appearance, he may be worse than himself, but he is not ugly. He has a good-looking appearance, so what is he afraid of?

If at that time he could call out to Han Cheng without care, then what was his hesitation and inferiority complex?

Must Han Cheng take the initiative to chase him?

Han Cheng has to tell him that I don’t care about status. I only care about you?

At this moment, Shen Qingshu suddenly felt that he didn’t want Bai Jian and Han Cheng together as much.

Of course, he knew that the story contained 80% misunderstandings and twists and turns. He also knew that Bai Jian was not confident in himself, but he didn’t expect that he had no thought of taking the initiative. Unexpectedly, he didn’t even want to explain properly.

Just one sentence, “you’re not me, so you don’t understand”, ended all his problems.

He would say “you’re not me, so you don’t understand” to a person who is nothing like himself. When he is with Han Cheng and knows his identity, he can use this sentence for every quarrel in the future.

Han Cheng certainly doesn’t understand. He was born with a golden spoon and grew up smoothly with the love of his parents and gege. Therefore, he is childish and naive. He will think of something and hope you can go along with what he thinks.

This is not a big problem, because Han Cheng is a person who is willing to be reasonable. As long as you explain well with him, he can understand and respect ideas, even if he thinks they are, in his words, absurd.

However, this is on the premise that you need to explain to him, rather than tell him “you’re not me, so you don’t understand”.

Shen Qingshu felt that he seemed to understand how the 80% misunderstanding came from.

Bai Jian didn’t want to explain too much. He felt that as a rich second generation, Han Cheng didn’t understand, so Han Cheng really couldn’t understand.

He will be very tired, Shen Qingwhu thought. He not only doesn’t understand anything, but also takes the initiative to solve these misunderstandings because Bai Jian doesn’t like to take the initiative and doesn’t want to understand anything.

He’ll be tired.

Is this really the love Han Cheng wants?

Is this his destined love?

Shen Qingshu was puzzled about the official CP of the original novel for the first time.

He doesn’t think Han Cheng’s future lover should be like this, and he doesn’t want Han Cheng’s future lover to be like this.

Love should be mutual. How can he always accommodate and be considerate to others?

Shen Qingshu stopped talking.

His heart is in a mess.

He spoke to Bai Jian and inevitably felt disappointed.

  1. Bj mentality is honestly so annoying, is everyone supposed to understand him that says nothing? You want to be understood but don’t be silent. hey SQS may be transmigration, but not an alien who can read your mind completely, SQS is stubborn on the storylines of a novel he believes but really see the truth. hc doesn’t take any interest in even the bj since the beginning of the meeting

    Thank you for translation.

  2. The debate in the comment section is really solid on one side. I wonder if the topic is this in the variety show, what will Shen Qingshu say if he stood on the other side? Hehehe.

How will he defend this kind of character.

  3. Bai Jian’s mentality is really annoying, like how can they understand you when you don’t explain? Does they only have the right to understand you when you both have same situation? Nope! Even my extra introverted self is more than willing to explain at least a little for others to understand me.
I don’t even know how did they last in the OG!story, it is probably only HC who’s keeping their relationship going which is not good because a good relationship should be give and take not just one sidedly. BJ is acting like a teenage girl wanting the guy they like that doesn’t have any idea about their feelings to chase over them rather than them taking the initiative to at least show their intention. He only wanted to be on the receiving side not even lifting a finger.

And that’s not the most annoying part (in my opinion), he clearly wants to be with Han Sheng, enthusiastic everytime he sees him, trying to talk to him, this proves that he can indeed work hard for what he wants. The problem doesn’t seem to be this at all. But he (Bai Jian) makes it sound like it is. Like, he deliberately wants others to say or guess the wrong thing so he can say that they’re wrong, that they don’t understand. How can one understand if not only the person not willing to talk, but also when they did talk, he’ll misguide/misdirect the other? That’s just him not willing to talk at all. He can’t handle any problems that pop up, like at all. For example, if he wants to eat a canned peach, and didn’t see any can opener in his vicinity, he won’t eat anything, instead of looking for it or eating other things.
This author has a knack for making hateful characters.

  4. I really hate those ‘woe is me’ people. I think this kind of personality is more than inferiority complex. In fact, I think it’s another form of narcissism.

  5. Although Bai Jian hasn’t done anything bad, his attitude pisses me off greatly. Forcefully ending conversations with ‘you’re not me, so you won’t understand ‘ is just so unreasonable. If you really feel like that, go live in a cave or something and not have any contact with anyone ever, since no one in the world will ever be able to understand you…

  8. Yeeeesss! It felt really good to see the book ship sunk just like that. Sometimes couples only make sense in fiction. I remember reading Pride and Prejudice in a college class and the professor pointed out that the big romantic side couple actually never had an actual conversation shown on-screen. Hoe did they fall in love? What did they talk about together? What interests did they share together? We were just supposed to BELIEVE the love story between them with nothing of substance to back it up. This is actually how a lot of stories are written. You try to force real people together like that, like how HC and Bai Jian were, and it’s hard to still ship them, even leaving aside the feelings SQS already has for HC.

Thanks for your hard work translating!
